The Gulch is Nashville’s trendy, upscale shopping and dining hotspot. It’s easy to live, work, eat, and play in this of Music City neighborhood, with so many choices of where to dine, all conveniently located minutes from the heart of downtown.
Breakfast / Brunch
New-in-town Milk & Honey is a trendy coffee shop and juice bar that serves a full menu for breakfast, lunch, and dinner. Plus gelato.
If you’re getting started on a healthy kick (or live permanently on it – I admire your will power) – Juice Nashville serves fresh pressed juices, acai bowls, and juice cleanse kits to take home.
The Gulch is the home of the more popular location of local and tourist favorite Biscuit Love. Don’t miss the Bonuts – fried biscuit dough with lemon mascarpone and blueberry compote. Don’t go starving, as there will be a wait.
On the weekend give Party Fowl a gander for brunch, it’s located on the outskirts of the Gulch at 8th and Division and is a worthy destination for all your hot chicken desires, plus more other options than most.
Otaku Ramen is a my go-to ramen shop, perfect for warming up on a cold wintry day. Start your meal with a Hot Chicken Bao Bun, and then slurp on their Tennessee Tonkotsu for something a little different, with some added Music City flair.
Feast on local bbq (the ribs and mac and cheese, for sure) at Peg Leg Porker, where Pitmaster Carey Bringle runs the show. Bringle is a Nashville native who grew up with his grandfather cooking hogs. Carey got his start in competitive barbecuing and is now proud papa of one of Nashville’s hottest bbq joints.
Night Train Pizza is new in town and cooks one mean namesake Detroit style pizza. They also have $1 slices of regular pizza at lunch. Cannot beat that deal! Have a slice and split dessert with friends – the marshmallow topped Rocky Mountain Express is truly a campfire in the Gulch.Other sit-down upscale lunch options include Little Octopus, Del Frisco’s Grille, and City Fire.
Happy Hour Picks
Happy Hour feels a tad dressier in the Gulch, as most everything there is swanky, new, and shiny. Award winning cookbook author and TV personality Chef Maneet Chauhan’s trio of restaurants in a row are Chauhan, Tansuo, and Mockingbird, three very different and excellent dining experiences. On Monday-Thursday, head to any of the 3 from 5-6:30PM for a variety of bites and sips priced from $5-7. (You obviously cannot go wrong with lunch or dinner at any of the above – just wanted to point out their fantastic happy hour.)
One of The Gulch’s first tenants before it was the massive area it is today was Sambuca. The upscale restaurant that features live music nightly also touts happy hour on weekdays from 11am-7pm, featuring $4 beers, $5 wines and craft beers, $6 cocktails, and $7 premium cocktails.
Adele’s excels (see what I did there?) at cocktails, food, and atmosphere. Be sure and start with the Crispy Shrimp, then try not to embarrass yourself by drinking the accompanying Togarashi Aioli. It’s okay if you need to. I did.
There are so many fabulous dinner options in the Gulch, truly. You can’t go wrong with dining at The 404 Kitchen, Kayne Prime, Prima, or Moto. If it’s seafood you’re craving make a reservation at Fin & Pearl. Sushi Lovers will rejoice when they find Virago.
Original Gulch dweller (since 1974) – Station Inn is the place to go for real bluegrass. Live music nightly – go and enjoy a taste of what Nashville used to be like.
