Henley is Nashville’s modern American brasserie, operating under the creative culinary leadership of James Beard award-winning Executive Chef RJ Cooper. The concept opened a few months back on the ground floor of the Kimpton Aertson Hotel in Midtown, and boasts a space with an approachable mix of decor from yesteryear with some of today’s fun, contemporary flair. Bette Davis’ eyes watch you from above the liquor stocked behind the bar, amid pops of yellow, and mixed textures throughout. Enjoy a cozy private dining area in the back named ‘The Snooker’, or when weather allows, there’s also a small patio outside with seating for about 30 guests.
The stellar bar program at Henley is piloted by Head Bartender Jon Howard, with a focus on southern spirits, including plenty of bourbon/whiskey based cocktails.
On the menu you’ll find a number of shareable plates and communal courses, with a focus on seasonality and use of local ingredients. With that in mind, Henley’s menu changes often to include only the freshest of local ingredients, but one of our favorites from the Fall rendition include the Pumpkin Seed Risotto currently featured. Rumor has it that Chef RJ and the team from Henley also served that dish at the James Beard House last weekend. We enjoyed the entireity of our evening’s tasting menu, from the aforementioned risotto to the yellowtail with wild horseradish and sweet tooth mushrooms, a rabbit agnolotti, a 120 day aged sirloin with smoked beef fat, and our dessert – a preserved summer herb mousse with olive oil sponge.
For a very special dining experience, inquire the team at Henley about their secret chef’s table Rabbit Hole experience. The one table, multiple course affair (24 courses, in fact) takes place behind the bookshelf and right alongside the kitchen in Henley. Chef RJ himself will narrate you’re intimate fine dining adventure.
Henley located in Midtown is open daily for breakfast from 7am-10am, serves brunch on Sundays from 10:30am-2:30pm, and is open for dinner Sunday-Wednesday from 5-10pm and on Thursday-Saturday 5-11pm. The bar stays open 2 hours later each night.
